What a web agency in Milan costs

An honest answer, the parts of the bill nobody quotes, and who should still hire one.

A real Clay site — built from a Google listing

An aperitivo list changes more often than a website usually does. The Negroni is fixed; the plates, the hours in August and the price of the spritz are not. A quote handles all of that under a line called content updates, which is the line nobody reads at signing and the only one that matters afterwards.

A small-business website built by people costs about €1,500 — designer €700 · developer €550 · copywriter €250 — and then a line every month for hosting and for somebody to change things. Clay is €49 a month for all of it, and you change things yourself.

The local picture

What you are actually buying

Milan does Italy's brand work — fashion, furniture, advertising — so the studios are strong and their week is set by clients with a marketing department behind them. A bar or a salon is the small job in that week, and it gets priced and scheduled like one. What that small job actually has to get right is dull: shut at three, open again at six, a price list that changed last week.

When to hire one

This page is not for everybody

Three jobs here need a studio, and the third is Milan's: a page that sells and takes the card, a real stock count, or a site that reads in Italian and in English. Clay does none of them — one language, no switcher, and the shop hands the order over on WhatsApp rather than charging anything.

The bill nobody quotes

After launch

Milan's changes cluster: the fashion weeks, the Salone in April, a shut August, an aperitivo list that turns with the season. A quote prices the build and not the year after it, so the question to ask a studio is what one of those changes costs and when it would land.

Questions

Is an agency ever the right answer?

Three jobs here need a studio, and the third is Milan's: a page that sells and takes the card, a real stock count, or a site that reads in Italian and in English. Clay does none of them — one language, no switcher, and the shop hands the order over on WhatsApp rather than charging anything.

What does an agency site actually cost in Milan?

We publish one figure and it is a European average for a small-business build: €1,500, made of designer €700 · developer €550 · copywriter €250. We are not going to invent a Milan number — ask two studios and you will have a real one in a day.

What is the part nobody quotes?

Changes. A new menu, a fourth photograph, a Sunday you decide to open. On an agency site each of those is somebody else's calendar and usually an invoice; over a year it is often more than the build. That is the line Clay is actually replacing.

What language will my site be in?

In Italian, written in it rather than translated into it, because the business is in Italy. A site is in one language: there is no switcher and no second version of a page.

Can I move to my own domain?

Yes, on the paid plan — and the free clay.site address keeps working afterwards, so anything already printed still lands: what free covers, and what it does not.
