Rented by the day, on your own site

A villa, an apartment, a scooter, a board, a van. Anything that goes out for a stretch of days and comes back.

A real Clay site — built from a Google listing

Rental platforms take fifteen to twenty per cent, and they take the customer with them. For a place or a fleet that people already find by name, that is a large fee for an introduction that already happened.

Clay rents from your own page. A rate per day or per night, the days that are already gone, a deposit if you take one, and a check-in and check-out time that the confirmation actually tells them.

How a rental differs

Nights, not slots

A rental has no time of day in it: it has a first day and a last day, and the price is the rate times the nights. The calendar shows what is gone rather than a list of times.

What a guest most needs on the morning they arrive is the check-in time — so it goes in the confirmation email rather than in a paragraph on the page they have already left.

Scooters, boards, bikes, vans

The same engine handles a count of identical things. Six scooters means six can be out at once; the seventh booking for those days is refused rather than taken and apologised for.

Which is the whole difference between a booking form and a booking system.

Questions

Can I rent out several identical things?

Yes — say how many you have and the engine keeps count. Six scooters means the seventh booking for that week is refused.

Does it sync with Airbnb or Booking.com?

No. There is no channel manager and no iCal sync yet, so if you are also listed elsewhere you have to keep the calendar honest yourself.

How is the deposit handled?

Card, through Stripe, into your account. Whether you charge the balance on arrival is up to you.

Can I set a minimum stay?

Yes.

Can I block dates for maintenance?

Yes — close the days and they stop being offered, the same way a booked stretch does.

What currency are deposits taken in?

Yours. The amount you set is the amount charged, through Stripe into your own account, with no conversion and no marketplace fee.

Can I rent by the hour?

Not on this engine — a rental is nights or days. For something billed by the hour, use appointment booking instead, which is built around lengths and slots.
