What a web agency in Mexico City costs

An honest answer, the parts of the bill nobody quotes, and who should still hire one.

A real Clay site — built from a Google listing

The build figures quoted on the rest of the internet are European, and they are not what a studio in Roma Norte charges. What does carry across is the shape of the bill: design, build, words, and then a line every month for somebody to change things.

A small-business website built by people costs about €2,500 — designer €1,200 · developer €900 · copywriter €400 — and then a line every month for hosting and for somebody to change things. Clay is €49 a month for all of it, and you change things yourself.

The local picture

What you are actually buying

CDMX has an enormous freelance and studio scene and a wide spread of quality, so the honest advice is about how to read a quote rather than what one should say. Ask what happens after launch — who edits the menu, what a new photograph costs, whether you are handed the keys — because that is the part that decides how a site actually ages.

When to hire one

This page is not for everybody

Hire one when you have a brand, a catalogue or an integration. For a fonda, a café or a salon, the thing that brings people in is hours that are right, a menu that is current and the reviews you already have.

After launch

We quote our own numbers in euros because that is what we charge in; a local quote is a local quote and we are not going to invent one for you.

Questions

Is an agency ever the right answer?

Hire one when you have a brand, a catalogue or an integration. For a fonda, a café or a salon, the thing that brings people in is hours that are right, a menu that is current and the reviews you already have.

What does an agency site actually cost in Mexico City?

We publish one figure and it is a European average for a small-business build: €2,500, made of designer €1,200 · developer €900 · copywriter €400. We are not going to invent a Mexico City number — ask two studios and you will have a real one in a day.

What is the part nobody quotes?

Changes. A new menu, a fourth photograph, a Sunday you decide to open. On an agency site each of those is somebody else's calendar and usually an invoice; over a year it is often more than the build. That is the line Clay is actually replacing.

What language will my site be in?

In Spanish, written in it rather than translated into it, because the business is in Mexico. A site is in one language: there is no switcher and no second version of a page.

Can I move to my own domain?

Yes, on the paid plan — and the free clay.site address keeps working afterwards, so anything already printed still lands: what free covers, and what it does not.
