You already take orders on WhatsApp. The number is in the Instagram bio, somebody sends a voice note or a photograph of a screenshot, and between you the order gets worked out — what they want, what it costs, when they are coming.

Clay puts a proper shop in front of that thread. Products with photographs and prices, options like size or grind, each at its own address, and a basket that adds up. The order button then opens WhatsApp on their phone with the order already typed, and they press send.

The order, written out

The message carries the quantities, the product names and the options they picked — sliced, whole bean, large. It does not carry the total. They saw that on the page before they sent it, and you confirm the price in your reply, which is where the pickup time and the substitution get settled anyway.

Stock here is a yes or a no, not a count. Nothing is held when somebody adds to the basket, so two people can order the last one on a Saturday morning. In a thread that is one sentence to whoever was second. In a checkout it is a refund.

Questions

How long does it really take?

Most people are live in two to three minutes — search your business, pick a style, publish. There is nothing to install and no signup needed to see your site first, because it is built from your Google listing rather than from a blank page.

Is it free?

Yes. You get a live site on your own name.clay.site address with a small badge in the footer, and nothing expires. The paid plan is your own domain, the badge removed and the pro features.

Do I need any tech skills?

None. If you can type your business name, you can build a Clay site: the live page is the editor, so you tap the thing you want to change. There is no code anywhere, and nothing to install or keep updated — see the WordPress comparison for what that saves.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes — buy it wherever you like and point it at Clay on a paid plan; the certificate is issued for you. Until then the free name.clay.site address is a real one you can print, and it keeps working afterwards.

Can customers pay by card?

No. There is no card checkout for products on Clay, anywhere. The basket writes the order and hands it over, and you take the money the way you take it now — on collection, on delivery, by transfer, by whatever link you already send. The only card payments in Clay are for Clay itself.

Is there a record of the order somewhere?

Only the thread. Nothing comes back to us after the message is handed over, so the site never learns that an order was placed, paid or picked up. If your site has no phone number on it the same button opens an email instead, and that is your record.

I run a kitchen — can people order off the menu?

No. A dish on the menu is for reading; it has no add-to-basket button. If you want the food ordered, the things worth ordering go in the shop as products with their own options, and the menu stays what it is — the list on the wall.
