Each one with its own address, its own week and its own phone number — and one map with a pin on every branch.

The second one is where a website stops being simple. The hours are not the same, the phone is not the same, and most of the people searching are not looking for your business in general — they are looking for the one they can walk to.

On a Clay site a branch is a real thing rather than a line in a paragraph. It carries its own address, its own opening week, its own phone, email and WhatsApp, its own photographs, its own words and its own questions. They all sit on the one site, under the one brand.

What a branch owns

Different hours, different phone

Each branch answers for itself. The Sunday one shop opens and the other does not is not an asterisk under a table — it is that branch's week, with its own open-now line above it: “Open until 17:00” on one, “Opens tomorrow at 09:00” on the other, with a light beside each that goes orange in the last hour.

The number is per branch too, so the message about Tuesday reaches the shop it is about instead of whoever happens to hold the main phone.

One thing this costs you: Clay is built from one Google listing — the one you searched — so the first branch arrives filled in and you type the others. Nothing goes back and re-reads a second listing afterwards, which means their hours are yours to keep right.

A page each, and one map

Every branch gets its own address — /visit/soho, /visit/dalston — a real page rendered into the HTML, not a fragment somebody has to scroll to. That is the page a search engine can rank for the neighbourhood, and the one you can print on a card for that shop alone.

The map is drawn once, with a pin on each of them. Tapping a pin opens that branch, and directions hand over to Google Maps. The map itself is a picture — it does not pan or zoom, and a branch with no coordinates gets no pin rather than a photograph in its place.

Questions

Do you send a visitor to their nearest branch automatically?

No. Clay does not read anybody's location. What they get is a map with a pin on each branch and a page for each one, and they tap the one they recognise — which is usually the street name, not the distance.

Can two branches have different menus or different prices?

No. The menu, the shop and the currency belong to the site, so four branches share one list. If the two rooms genuinely sell different things at different prices, they want a site each: how the menu works.

Can each branch take its own bookings?

No. Booking is one setup per site — one set of services, or one dining room — so it cannot run two diaries at once. A second diary means a second site, and booking is on the paid plan either way.

What if I only have one location?

Then there is no branch page and there should not be: that one place is your Visit page, with the address, the week and the map on it. A second address for the same content would only compete with itself: the hours in detail.

When should a branch be its own site instead?

When it is really its own business — a different name, a different menu, its own reviews. Branches on one site share the words, the design and the shop; what they do not share is an address, a week, a phone number or a set of photographs. A second site is on the paid plan.
