Four rows that are different tomorrow

Specials go in a group of their own, named the way you would say it, Today, Vandaag, Off the board. The group carries its own note and its own serving hours, so "Today, until 15:00" is drawn on the page instead of being typed into a dish and then forgotten about at four o'clock.

The price field is text rather than a number, which matters more here than anywhere else on a menu. Market price sits in the same column as €19 and From €14, and nothing rounds it, converts it or refuses it for not being a figure. One currency, written the way your country writes it.

Tap the row, not the file

The panel opens on the menu because the menu is what you tapped, not a dashboard, not a page about the page. Fifteen seconds, most of which is the typing. Nothing to publish, nothing to clear, and the next person who scans the code at table four gets the new figure.

What it will not do is mark a dish sold out. There is no stock switch on a menu row at all, that belongs to shop products, so a dish that has gone comes off the list and goes back on tomorrow. Two taps instead of one, and better known now than at seven on a Saturday.

The usual complaint about a PDF menu is that it opens sideways on a phone. The real cost sits upstream of that: the day the fish changes, somebody has to open a design file at home, export it again and send it to whoever has the website password. So most days nobody does, and the site goes on quietly serving something the kitchen stopped doing in March.

A Clay menu is rows on your own page, and the editor is that page. You stand on your own site, tap the row that is wrong and change €18 to €21, or the word cod to the word hake. There is no Save button, the change is written as you make it, and there is undo if the phone was in your pocket at the time.

Questions

Can I mark tonight's special sold out?

No. A menu row has no stock switch of any kind, only shop products carry one, so a dish that has gone comes off the list and goes back on when it returns. If you need a real sold-out state with a page that says so, that is the shop: products and stock.

Do I have to reprint the QR codes when the board changes?

No, and that is the point of a code being nothing but a picture of an address. It opens your menu page; the page is the thing you edited. Print once, change the food as often as you like: a QR code menu.

Can I write tomorrow's board tonight and have it appear at nine?

No. Nothing publishes a change at a set time, so the menu changes when you change it. What does happen by itself is the hours on a group, Lunch, until 15:00, which is drawn on the page and needs no tap from you at all.

Do the specials show up on my home page?

No, and deliberately. The menu never draws a list on the home page, it gets one card there and its own address, which is what somebody bookmarks or sends to a friend. A home page that reprints forty rows is a home page nobody scrolls past.

Can the specials be different at two branches?

No. The menu is the site's, and a site with several branches shows one of them, what each branch has of its own is an address, a week, a phone number and its own photographs. Two kitchens running two different boards are two sites, which is the paid plan. Several branches on one site.
