Class booking for yoga and fitness studios

A studio's week is nine classes and a hundred-odd places, and most of them are handed out in a WhatsApp thread. The seven o'clock on Monday is the one that hurts: it goes by Sunday night, three more people ask anyway, and somebody has to remember who asked first.

Clay puts the classes on your own page with a number of places on each one. Somebody takes one and the count goes down; when the last place goes, that time is struck through where it stood rather than staying up to be argued about.

Twelve mats, not twelve services

A class is one row: its name, how long it runs, what it costs, and how many at once. That last field is the whole feature. The hint under it in the editor reads “3 barbers, 12 mats”, and it counts exactly that — the people who can be in the room at the same time.

One booking is one place. Twelve people take the seven o'clock and the thirteenth is not offered it. There is nobody to pick behind the number: capacity is a count, not a roster, so two rooms running the same class is one row of twenty-four rather than two rows of twelve.

The button at the end of the card says Take this time rather than Confirm, and it asks for an email and a password of at least six characters — booking a class makes the person an account, which is how they come back and cancel it themselves.

The timetable

One set of hours, stepped by the class

The days you open and the hours you open them are one setting for the whole booking, and the length of a class steps the times out of them. Open Monday to Saturday, seven until eight in the evening, an hour a class, ninety minutes between starts — those are the times, on every day you are open.

What Clay does not hold is a different grid on a different day. Vinyasa at seven on Monday and half six on Wednesday is not two settings it has. A studio whose week is different every day will see more starts offered than it runs, and should put the real timetable on the page in words.

For the nine classes that repeat at the same times every week — which is most studios — it is the right shape. Blocked days take out the bank holiday and the fortnight in August, and a place can be taken up to three months ahead.

Full, and nobody queueing

There is no waiting list. When the last mat goes the time closes and the person who wanted it sees your phone number under it. For nine classes that usually settles itself: whoever misses the seven o'clock takes the half nine. If your model is a hall of a hundred with a queue, this is not it.

An email lands per booking with the name, the phone number and anything they typed, and replying to it reaches them. The same list is in your own dashboard. Somebody who walks in and pays at the desk you write in yourself, and it takes a place off the same class.

One thing to know before you lean on it: the confirmation email prints the time in GMT rather than in yours, so a seven o'clock class in Bali reads as an hour the night before. The page they booked on says the right thing. The letter does not.

Questions

Can somebody book two places at once?

No. The party-size question belongs to table booking; on a class the visitor is always one person, so somebody bringing a friend books twice. Each booking takes one mat, and each one asks for an email and a password, because they get an account to cancel from.

Is there a waiting list when a class is full?

No. A full time is closed and stays visible with a line through it, so nobody is offered something that has gone. There is no queue, no reminder and no no-show handling — the class list, the count and the emails are the whole of it.

Can I sell a ten-class pass or a membership?

No. Nothing is charged anywhere on the site — no packs, no credits, no direct debits — and a deposit cannot even be attached to a class, because that field exists only on a restaurant table. The price is stated on the class and you take the money the way you already do.

Can a regular book every Tuesday in one go?

No — one date at a time. There are no repeating bookings and nothing rolls a term forward, so somebody who comes weekly picks each Tuesday themselves. The upside is that a week they drop is one booking cancelled rather than a subscription to unpick.

Do I need a paid plan to take bookings?
